Theekshana Fernando began at CHWS in 2020. Dr. Fernando works as a researcher for the Oral Health Workforce Research Center (OHWRC) where he specializes in qualitative oral health research. His research interests include health policy research and advocacy, program development and evaluation, and health education. Prior to accepting his position at CHWS, he worked as a medical doctor at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Tribhuvan University, Nepal, and a Master of Public Health from the University at Albany. Dr. Fernando has worked as a research assistant at the Department of Health Policy and Management at the School of Public Health, University at Albany and as a student assistant working for the Maternal Mortality Review Program at the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). His health policy research experience includes two internships at the New York State Association of County Health Officials (NYSACHO) and the Community Health Care Association of New York State (CHCANYS).
